So what is this blog thing all about? Hmmm, hard to say. Anything and everything, yet nothing in particular.
Posts will run the gamut - from music and reminiscing to "life in general." Like any other KFA project, it will probably end up more for our own entertainment than anything else. And if you just happen across our randomness and get something out of it, then that's just an added bonus.

MC DJ Mischief - Gettin' Funky, Gettin' Ill

Gettin' Funky, Gettin' Ill (aka It's Complicated)
Track 2 of "Keepin It Real 2010" the KFA 20th Anniversary Mixed CD

A hyperactive journey though some old skool hip-hop, r&b, pop, and new jack. Due to the time constraints of the CD, 99 tracks were compressed into a 15 minute mix. Everything from Run-DMC, Whodini, Dana Dane, Beastie Boys, to Ice Cube, Public Enemy, 2Pac, Black Sheep, Gangstarr, to BBD, Wreckx n Effect, Keith Sweat, and even Color Me Badd, New Edition, and Lauren Wood (whaaat?)
How many of the tracks can you name??

If it makes you say "Yeah", "Damn", or just bob your head - then mission accomplished.

DJ Hideo - Rest In Peace

This one hits closer to home, A LOT closer to home.

DJ Hideo Sugano passed away on Saturday April 24, 2010 after a long bout with cancer. Please visit Hideo's site for information on his memorial service and to leave messages for him and his family. www.djhideo.com If his life and music touched you in any way, please help his family in their time of mourning.

Rest In Peace Hideo. The KFA guys took some time to remember the good times we shared in the past. You have been an inspiration to the whole crew, not just as a dj - but as a person. We were truly blessed to have been able to spend time together. We miss you.

Fista had Hideo make him a drop, never thought we'd be using it in this manner. Something about hearing Hideo's voice...it just brings a lot of memories back, good times. Maybe Puffy said it best...

Here's a vid Stoo took at Oiwakes. As always, Hideo's set was tight.

R.I.P. Guru

I'm sure there are a ton of posts/articles out there on Guru's recent death, his impact on Hip-Hop, and his place in the community. So I will leave that to the experts with a broader view and more in depth knowledge. I just wanted to put out a little story about a meeting we had with him.

Mista Fista and I were at a record release party in Hollywood for Full Clip - so what does it make it...'99. It was sponsored by Fistas record pool, so there were a bunch of semi-famous djs there hanging out in the lounge. Guru and Premier stepped in and basically got mobbed by everyone. I guess being either respectful or overly polite, we just hung back at our table waiting for a convenient opening.

At some point Guru looked over, saw us sitting there, Gang Starr singles and sharpies in hand. He stopped the conversation he was having and waived us over to sit down with him and Premier. We talked about nothing in particular, just shooting the shiest, but he was real down to earth. He took his time and signed our records. Guru and Premier even recorded a couple of KFA drops for us - and sure they aren't the best quality (being recorded in a club and all - is that really "Make The Music With Your Mouth Biz" in the background?), but still thinking about it, it was a really cool encounter.

R.I.P. Guru!

Digitizing Old Tapes - 30 Minutes of Mischief Side A

Here is the A-Side of the 30 Minutes of Mischief demo tape. This is the Hip-Hop / R&B side. As much as I am tempted to go back and re-edit it...it is what it is, frozen in time in '97. Back in the days...ah, you know what I mean.

Diggin through some old mixed tapes

Just a little something to take you back...
Digitized version of the B Side of the 30 Minutes of Mischief demo tape from waaaaay back in 9D7. Probably about 25 original tapes were given out - but nothing like sharing something old on the web to make it new again.

Side B has some old skool freestyle & miami bass type stuff for your earholes. I'll get Side A - Hip Hop / R&B up later.

The Egyptian Lover Sells Sporting Goods??

I was watching TV with my brother a few weeks back and saw this Dick's Sporting Goods commercial. About 10 seconds in I couldn't stop laughing, not because of the bad acting, but because of the music.
ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!
Egypt, Egypt by the Egyptian Lover as the main music?? Hahaha - just bizarre. What's next, some MC Shy D or Maggotron?
Yeah - I'm bored.
